If the sinks in your home are draining slower and slower or not draining at all – you have a clogged drain.
Over time the pipes in your home will build up gunk and debris that starts clogging the drainage through your pipes. The best way to avoid a big problem is to perform periodic drain cleaning.
Hair in the bathroom sink and tub drain is a big culprit and will cause your drains to clog. Food scraps and grease in the kitchen sink will also clog your drains. Other small items (like toys, coins and ear rings) will mysteriously end up down the sink or toilet which will lead to clogged drains and the need for drain cleaning.
One cup each of vinegar, water and salt makes a great eco-friendly drain cleaner. Remove any standing water in the sink. Pour one cup of baking soda followed by one cup of table salt into the drain, then pour in the cup of vinegar. Wait 15-20 minutes and flush it with boiling water. If your drain is still clogged, you can try using a plunger to “plunge” the drain. Plungers only work when they are under water. Fill the bowl part-way up so the head of the plunger is under water. Put the plunger against the drain opening and pull and push the plunger so the water surges in the drain and dislodges the stoppage.
If this does not correct the problem, it is time to call your local Boulder, CO plumber. Professional plumbers have the equipment needed to work on tough drain clogs such as high power water jetting and camera inspections to locate the issue.
